Clare Mummert, 61, passed into heaven on a blessed sunny afternoon, surrounded by family, Thursday, January 26tn, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson's disease. Clare was born on Staten Island, New York, July 13, 1955. She, her mother and sister lived there for 3 wonderful years on the Peter Maurin farm established by Maurin and Dorothy Day, a pacifist, world figure and nominee for canonization in the Catholic Church. Clare was baptized in the farm's chapel; godparents being Dorothy Day and Ammon Hennessey, who was a missionary to the Hopi Indians. Clare's family moved to Manhattan where she attended grade school and junior high at Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic School, Seward Park High (where she was on the swim team), and Hunter College. Clare moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1975, and El Paso in 1978. She was the daughter of Magdeline Roman and sister to Mady Inman. Clare was a department manager at Dillards until leaving due to her Parkinson's, becoming a stay at home mother and wife. Clare leaves behind her husband John E. Mummert and two children, Rebecca and Jonn Mummert. Clare's joyous love and light helped her overcome her worldly struggles. She was a spiritual person who touched everyone she came in contact with and left a heavenly mark on her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, friend, and PEO sister, with a special kind of unconditional love. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 11th in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 7000 Edgemere.
