Clarence "Coley" Coleman CrawfordABILENE, TXClarence "Coley" Coleman Crawford, 68, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 at a local nursing facility. He was born on December 27, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas and grew up in Cleburne, Texas with his parents Clarence Franklin Crawford and Alice Virginia Coleman. Coley graduated from Cleburne High School in 1967 and subsequently attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas where he studied music and theater arts, focusing on technical aspects. Later, Coley opened two popular hair salons in Cleburne and Granbury, Texas. Eventually, he worked for an electronics business where he became interested in computers. That interest grew into a computer business of his own, Crawford and Associates, which met the computer needs of businesses in Granbury and the surrounding areas. During this time, Coley married Lisa Marie Johnson for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After earning his Novel Netware Engineer certification, Coley was hired by Abilene I.S.D. in 1994 to work in their technology department, eventually becoming the technology project manager for the district. It was during this period that Coley and Lisa were blessed with their son, Jacob Coleman Crawford. Coley retired in 2014 when his health began to decline. Coley's interests included golf, music, and soccer. He and his father enjoyed the game of golf together. He played with the high school golf team and picked it up again as he taught his own son, Jacob, to play. Music was a joy and a talent for Coley. He played many instruments and participated in the high school marching and stage bands. He also played base guitar in a rock combo called the Riddlers that performed for area dances. Coley was an excellent soccer coach leading his hardworking team, the Shamrocks, to many championships, including a state title. How he loved those girls and teaching them to excel. For 42 years, Coley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served diligently in whatever capacity he was asked, including Primary Instructor, Seminary Teacher, Branch Presidency counselor, Elder's Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, High Counselor, and Bishop. He often said that his greatest blessings came because of membership in the church; that was his family.He is survived by his wife, Lisa; son, Jacob; beloved cousin, Becky Reid (David) Corder, their daughter, Jenny (Steven) O'Toole, and their son Emerson; mother-in-law, Lanez Probert; in-law siblings, Linda (Walter) Reynolds, Susan (Lloyd) Filby, Rolayne (Lamar) Brown, Jed (Cheryl) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Margie (Scott) Jacobson, and numerous nephews and nieces.Coley was preceded in death by his parents, a newborn brother, father-in-law Melvin Probert, and sister-in-law Becke Probert. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at a viewing and visitation from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street. A brief viewing will be held from 9:30AM to 10:30AM followed by funeral service at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3325 N. 12th Street.
