Clarence W. (Jack) Follis April 15, 1919 November 15, 2016 Alexandria, Ind. - Clarence W. "Jack" Follis, 97, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness. He was born on April 15, 1919, in Adolphus, Ky., to Charles and Clara (Conyer) Follis. He has lived in the area since 1937, and moved to Alexandria in 1950. Jack served with the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945. He worked for National Gypsum in Alexandria for 28 years. When the Alexandria plant closed in 1972, he followed National Gypsum to Bellefonte, retiring from there in 1981, and returning to Alexandria. He was a lifelong member of the Alexandria First United Methodist Church and held several positions in the church. Jack enjoyed camping and fishing with the family. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed woodworking, antiquing and bird watching. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Michael) Shawley, of Bellefonte; one son, Phil (Janet) Follis-Orestes; three grandchildren, Jamie (Tammy) Follis-Fishers, Heather (Matt) Ferguson-Fishers and Nathan Follis, Indianapolis; three great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Theresa Follis-Fishers; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Loser Follis, whom he married on February 1, 1942, and she passed in 2013; a son, Dennis Follis; and a sister, Mary Frances Meador. Services honoring Jack's life and legacy will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12:00 noon prior to the services. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park at Elwood.
