Claude K. Odell of Pelican, AK. passed away on Monday October 6, 2014 he was 70 years old. CKO as he was known, was born on March 25, 1944 in Juneau, AK. He and his family moved to Pelican in 1956, where he attended middle school and then went to live with relatives in Wisconsin where he graduated high school. He then attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he was a letterman sharpshooter on the Rifle Team. During the summers he would return to Pelican to work at the Pelican Cold Storage and commercially fish with his father on the F/V Emma and the F/V Sitka. He served his country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army and after his honorable discharge, once again returned to Pelican with his new family. In 1969, he and his family moved to Sitka, AK. where for 10 yrs. he worked for Clear Creek Logging on the C-Lady. He became a well respected carpenter in Sitka and elsewhere. He worked on the Blue Lake Dam project in Sitka as well as for Sitka Sound Seafood. In 1986 he moved back to Pelican where he used his carpenter skills to become an independent contractor. He was known for his outstanding work ethic and his attention to detail. Claude was a long time member of the NRA as well as a team member in the Klondike Trail of '98 Road Relay. He enjoyed hunting, clam digging and most of all the 4th of July festivities for which he would dress up and rule the parade. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, unusual sayings and his love of his dogs which he was never without. Claude is survived by his children Kim (Odell) Andrews and Joeph Kollar; Shayne Odell and Michelle Pesonen; Tara (Padon) Goodson and Tim Goodson; Bradelle Padon and Nick Hatch. His grandchildren Tyne, Dylan, Calista and her husband Shea, Chadam, Chaz, Jesse and Mason; mother Henriette Odell; brother Allen Odell and his wife Becky; nephew Scott Odell and niece Amy Tweedale; three great nieces; and many close friends. Claude was preceded in death by his his wife, Caroline (Babe) Odell and his father William (Bill) Odell.As celebration of life will be held in Pelican, AK. sometime in the summer of 2015.
