AUBURN — Claude M. Payton, 83, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 25, 1932, in Tunnelton, Indiana to the late William Claude and Florence (Terry) Payton. He married Phyllis (Hissong) Payton in February 1953 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2007. Surviving are his sons; Keith Payton of Fort Wayne; Bill (Kelly) Payton of Utah; Paul (Karla) Payton of Missouri; Patrick (JoDe) Payton of Garrett; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; an brother Delbert (Mary Lou) Payton of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. Claude worked as an engineer with Dana Corporation in Auburn and was a Korean WarArmy veteran. He was a member of the Kendallville VFW and the American Legion Post 97 in Auburn. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
