Claude Langdon RiceSeptember 30, 1927 - December 7, 2015Claude Langdon Rice passed away on Monday December 7th. Claude was born on September 30, 1927 to Omer and Gladys Rice in Valley, Nebraska. While Claude was still an infant, they moved to Nampa, Idaho. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to lower Deer Flat where they had purchased the farm which became Claude's and his family's home to his final days.Claude attended Sunny Ridge then Huston grade school through the eighth grade and graduated from Caldwell High School. He enlisted in the Navy towards the end of WWII at the age of 17, while a junior in high school. When WWII was over, Claude went back to college and studied mathematics and physics, graduating from the College of Idaho in 1950 with honors, magna cum laude. Claude also served our country in the Korean conflict, assigned to the USS Los Angeles as a radio repairman. After his military service, he managed his family farm on Ustick Road in Caldwell for many years.Claude loved his family and attending the Deer Flat Free Methodist church. He was known by family and friends as a kind and gentle soul, quiet and spiritual, a wonderful man who devoutly followed his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Claude is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ina, and her four children. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Paulson and brother Richard (Dick) Rice and was preceded in death by his sister Jeanne Suchoki. Claude had 4 step-grandchildren and 8 great step-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 14th at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
