Clarence Payne, also known as "Clearance" to his friends and family, passed away on May 30, 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 88. He was born on January 10, 1936, a time when the world was a much simpler place without smartphones and social media.
Clearance was a proud graduate of West End High School where he excelled in dodging homework and charming his teachers with his quick wit. After high school, he bravely served in the Army as a Sergeant, mastering the art of making a bunk bed with military precision.
When Clarence wasn't busy defending his country, he enjoyed spending time outdoors pursuing his passion for hunting. He was known for his sharp eye and steady hand, always coming home with a trophy or two (and the occasional tall tale).
Clearance is survived by his three children: Sherry, Clearance Jr, and Clarissa. He also leaves behind six grandchildren who will forever cherish the memories of their grandpa's adventurous spirit and love for storytelling.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass of bourbon in Clarence's honor and share a laugh in memory of the man who lived life to the fullest and never took himself too seriously.
You can to the family or in memory of Clearance Payne.
