Clem Phillip “Cookie” Cook Jr., 80, of New Albany, passed away on March 6, 2020, at Floyd Baptist Health Hospital in New Albany.
Born September 20, 1939, in Ohio he was the son of the late Clem Phillip Cook Sr., and Johnnymae Cook. He married Sandra Amburgey in 1975 in North Vernon; she preceded him in death on November 14, 2009.
Clem graduated in 1945 in Akron, Ohio and served in the U.S. Marine Corp for three years. He worked as a welder for Huncilman Metal Fabrication in New Albany for 5 years and had previously worked as a cross country truck driver. Clem was a member of the Aviation Club in Elizabeth. He enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and NASCAR.
Survivors include sons, Mark Cook of Cincinnati, Ohio, Phillip Cook of Akron, Ohio, Tim (Tracy) Cook of Seattle Washington, and Daniel Todd of Virginia; daughters, Tameeka (Ron Glass) Cook of Charlestown, Shartanya Bennett of New Albany, Barbara Crawford of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joni Shelley of North Vernon; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenny Cook; and sister, Denise Cook.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, March 13, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
