Cletis "Mac" McKay passed away on April 23, 2009 after losing his battle with cancer. Mac was born on December 24, 1931 and he was raised in the Yuma Valley, the oldest of seven children. At the age of 18, he joined the
U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England for nine of the next fifteen years, working as an aircraft refueler. When he returned to the States, he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington and Tuscon, Arizona until he left the military in 1965 as a Staff Sergeant. In 1970, he began working as a line driver for L.A. Yuma hauling cattle and freight between Yuma, Phoenix, and the Los Angeles area. He and his wife, Patricia lived in Phoenix until 1997 and then transferred to Yuma. He retired in 2008, after working for L.A. Yuma for 35 years. His hobby was restoring old John Deere and Farmall tractors for many years. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home; sons, Donald of Mesa,, Arizona, Mark and Steve of Redding, England, and Justin of Yuma; one daughter, Sharon Goldby of Staffordshire, England; one step-daughter, Kathleen (Don) Ellis of Apache Junction, Arizona; two brothers, Bud (Mary) McKay and Alvy (Brenda) McKay; and three sisters, Imogene (Chuck) Wheeler, Wilma Crist all of Yuma, and Wanda Yates of Forth Worth, Texas. He is also survived by four grandsons; one granddaughter; and will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. and Winnie McKay; son, David McKay; and sister, Helen McKay Neinast. At his request, no funeral will be held. A memorial service will be held in the clubhouse of the Sunrise Mobile Estates at 1950 E. 24th Street, on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make any donation in his name to Hospice of Yuma.
