LAURINBURG — Clyde Hall Willoughby passed away at the age of 81 following a long and courageous battle with cancer on Oct. 4, 2013.
Funeral services were held on Oct. 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg officiated by the Rev. C.F. McDowell. Committal with military honors followed at Hillside Memorial Park.
Clyde was born on Jan. 21, 1932 in Lumberton, son of the late Clegg H. and Lydia P. Willoughby. He was the devoted husband of 52 years to the late Dawn Rau Willoughby. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Sons of the Confederates. He retired from Southern Bell after 37 years of service and later retired from the Scotland County Sheriff's Office. He served as a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his sisters Maizelle Davis and Eva Mae Willoughby.
Surviving are his daughter Patricia W. Nelson and husband Jimmy of Smithfield, son Michell Lee Willoughby of Rockingham, brother Evander "Vann" H. Willoughby of Snow Hill, three grandchildren: Christopher Willoughby of Laurel Hill, Matthew Nelson of Smithfield, and Vallie Willoughby of Middleburg, Fla., four great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made in Mr. Willoughby's memory to the First Baptist Church, 302 East Church Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or the American Cancer Society.
