Clyde Warren Buehler, 90, of Ellensburg, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2013. Clyde was born on May 16, 1923 in Miller, South Dakota to John Oliver and Laura (Alfred) Buehler. He was raised in Le Mars, Iowa. His dad died when Clyde was 6 weeks old and his mother raised him and his brother, Otis, during the difficult depression years. Clyde was absolutely committed to his word and his relationships. He never looked back on his commitment to his devoted wife of nearly 69 years. They're dedication to each other began during World War II on September 9, 1944, to be there for each other for better or worse, that was never to be challenged. They have been an inspiration to their children and grandchildren to the sanctity of marriage. He was a part of the 17th Airborne Division and was in the 464th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 29, 1946. After the war, Clyde finished college at Vermillion, South Dakota. He became a teacher, coach and athletic director. He taught and coached in Le Mars, Iowa, Ritzville, Prosser and Ellensburg before retiring in 1979. Clyde made a difference in so many lives. As one of his former football players said, "He set the example by being the example". Many of his students and athletes have multiplied the "Coach Buehler" part of them to their children and countless others. His expectations were high, believing that you did your best or got out of the way. He truly changed many lives. Clyde was a member of the Family Christian Center in Ellensburg and was a man of God who knew the value of hard work and devotion to his family. He was a man of strong personal faith in God but reserved to openly share this faith. It is what defined him as a person and formed his strong morals and ethical values that he passed on to his family. Clyde is lovingly survived by his beloved wife; Betty Jean Buehler of Ellensburg, sons; Dr. Michael (Merilee) Buehler and David (Belinda) Buehler all of Yakima, Roger (Eva) Buehler of Germantown, TN, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.A Celebration of Clyde's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Family Christian Center, Ellensburg.
