Colin Elizabeth DoughertyKnoxville, TNColin Elizabeth Dougherty, age 85, died on Saturday, October 14,2017 after a long battle with MS. Colin was born on May 4th 1932 in Knoxville Tennessee. She went to Salem Academy where she made wonderful friendships and memories. She returned to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.Colin was known for her quick wit and personality, always ready with a joke. She had a great laugh that was infectious. Active in Junior League and other clubs, Colin also enjoyed all sports and loved to play golf and swim ---- and won many competitions. Her greatest passion was her love of animals. The lucky animals she adopted were her children. Another passion and source of great pride for her was her Irish heritage. She enjoyed studying it and was thrilled to be able to travel to Ireland.Colin had many friends and will be greatly missed. There are some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger, and live just a little better, Colin was one of those. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Albert Dougherty and cousin Louise Stalnaker. She is survived by cousins: John and LeeAnn Dougherty Jr; Boone Dougherty; Wally Wood and close family friends Hugh and Angelia Nystrom; Frank and Kelly Nystrom and Joann and Robert Coakley. Thank you to the staff from Clarity Pointe, Smokey Mountain Hospice and 24-7 Healthcare for taking such wonderful care of Colin.A private graveside service will be Thursday at 2:00 pm, October 19, 2017 at Highland Memorial Cemetery. A Memorial service will then follow at 3:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley P.O. Box 51723 Knoxville, Tennessee 37950 and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 800 S.
