Young, ColinColin R. Young, age 73, passed away at The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2017. Colin was born on June 23, 1944 to James and Dorothy (TenPas) Young at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. After graduating from Sheboygan North High School in 1963 he entered the United States Air Force that included 18 months of service in Vietnam, holding the rank of Sargent upon discharge in 1967. Colin met Mary, his wife, through letters while he was serving, and upon his return to the United States, they met in person and soon thereafter married in August of 1968. Colin furthered his education through the GI Bill receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1972. Colin was employed for over 20 years as an insurance agent for Rural Insurance Companies while living in Sheboygan and then in Madison. He was a very successful sales agent garnering many company and industry awards that included Rookie of the Year, Outstanding Sales Representative, Insurance Salesman All-Star Honor Roll and membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable. Colin was an avid fisherman, ice fisherman, golfer, skier, and active in his community serving on the Board of Big Brothers of America in Sheboygan and volunteering with church youth groups in Sheboygan and Buckeye Evangelical Free Church in Madison. He and Mary were fortunate to be able to travel the world and he was always proud he skied the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. Colin was a man of deep abiding faith and was known by many as a kind, gentle man, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always had a joke to crack and smile to share. Colin is survived by his wife: Mary of Waupaca; children: Nicole (Rob) Vernon of Arlington, Virginia; Alison (Chad) Kavanaugh of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Drew, Brooke, and Carter Kavanaugh of Sun Prairie. Also, brothers: Ron (Amy) Schulze of Sheboygan, WI; and Rick (Marilyn) Schulze of Sheboygan, WI; as well as three nephews, Derrick, Ryan, and Kevin. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home, N2620 Wisconsin Highway 22, Waupaca, WI. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the time of the service, Burial will be at 1:00pm at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery located across from the Veterans Home at King. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at MacArthur Hall third floor east wing along with Chaplain Rich Engle at the Wisconsin Veterans home for their unfailing care and support of Colin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in memory of Colin Young. Donations will support services in MacArthur Hall as well as the Home's PTSD programs.
