Colonel George Richard Dixon of Castleton, Virginia passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 6, 1941 to the late George W. and Eleanora J. Dixon.
He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1962. Colonel Dixon entered the U.S. Air Force, completed pilot training, and flew over 300 combat missions over Southeast Asia. Colonel Dixon’s 30-year career included serving as Base Commander of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and three Pentagon tours with headquarters U.S. Air Force, Joint Chief of Staff and Secretary of Defense Staff.
His many decorations include The Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Four Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star Medal and seventeen Air Medals. Colonel Dixon is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Air War College.
He leaves behind three sons from a previous marriage, Rick, Mike, and Dr. Eric Dixon; his step son, Christian Martinez; and nephew Dr. Gregory Dixon. But most of all, he leaves behind his best friend, caregiver, and wife, Elsa Rosales Dixon.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville, VA 22701.

The interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on June 28, 2024, at 9 a.m.
