He was born on July 2, 1969, to Melba and Conney Berger, Sr., and was the beloved husband of Aimee Gail Berger.After graduating from Dover High School in 1987, Conney earned his BA in Biology from Lehigh University in 1991. In 1996, he graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now affiliated with Rutgers University, focusing on Pharmacology and Toxicology. His research centered on organophosphate insecticides. He continued in that path with his post-doctoral fellowship in Toxicology at Rutgers University from 1996-1997. In 1999, he was certified in General Toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology. He had 20 years of experience as a regulatory toxicologist and consultant for well-known pharmaceutical companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Glaxo SmithKline, and Hoffmann-La Roche. He became the U.S. Head of Toxicology in the Department of Non-Clinical Safety for Roche in Nutley, N.J., and served as a Principal Investigator for pharmacokinetic and toxicology studies in Nutley and as a primary member of the Roche ACUC.Conney most recently served as Senior Toxicologist at Toxicology Regulatory Services in Charlottesville, having begun his work there in 2013. He continued his work there until his passing.Conney was a member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) along with its Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MASOT) since 1995, serving on the MASOT Program Committee (2005-2009) and as MASOT Secretary/Treasurer (2007-2009).Aimee was lucky to be able to have 30 wonderful years with Conney. He was a devoted husband and father, who cared deeply for his family. His dedication and perseverance towards life made him an incredible man, and his love for knowledge kept him busy. Raising two sons also kept him occupied, but they were his pride and joy. He loved traveling to sports events no matter the location because he loved watching them grow and play. Aimee and the family will continue carry Conney's loving spirit and heartwarming memories.In addition to his parents and wife, Conney is survived by his grandfather, Ralph Burgess; his two sons, Conney W. Berger, III and Sebastian Berger; a brother, Rodney A. Berger; a sister, Crystal Berger; sister in-law, Erika Reeling and her husband, Craig; two aunts, Yvonne Kearney and Brenda Burgess Atkins; four nieces, Emma Berger, Evanny Berger, Frankie Reeling, and (Jeanaah) Jones; three nephews, Rodney Berger, Jr., Dominik Reeling, and Nickolas Reeling; one grand-nephew, Nickolas Jones; and six cousins, Eddie Atkins, Renata Burgess, Jovan Kearney, Kelly Burgess, Nicole Burgess, and Evon Burgess.Conney was preceded in death by two uncles, Ralph Burgess, Jr. and Dennis Burgess.A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
