Cora "Betty" Elizabeth Seegmiller, 88, of Watsonville, Calif., passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side, on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in Watsonville, Calif.Betty, as she was known, was born on April 28, 1929, to Charles Paul Dunifer and Ora Pearl (Mitchell) Dunifer in Mattoon, Ill. Betty was raised in various states such as Ill., Texas and Utah, but also lived in Tenn. and NM, before settling down in Calif. In Utah, she attended Weber High School where she started her strong friendships that continued throughout her life. Betty held many jobs during her life, mainly in the grocery industry, including Earls Food Market, White Cliff Market, Safeway, Nob Hill, the Food Fair and JC Penney. She loved baking, gardening, sewing, and Bingo. She was a caring hospital volunteer, helping at Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville, Tenn. and San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, NM. Betty married Richard K. (Dick) Seegmiller, Sr., and they raised their four children. Later, Betty and Dick got divorced, and Betty moved to Greeneville, Tenn. when she retired, to build a log cabin. Betty was a lover of all, with a big heart. She attended various churches such as Baptist, Methodist, Mormon, Christian and Presbyterian.Betty was preceded by her two brothers, Chuck Dunifer and Bob Dunifer; and sister, Mary Maluf. She is survived by her sons, Richard K. Seegmiller, Jr., D. Paul (Elaine) Seegmiller and John Scott (Korey) Seegmiller; and her daughter, Marianne (Larry) Erickson. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life for Betty was held on Friday, Oct. 6, at Valley Heights Senior Community, 925 Freedom Blvd., Watsonville, Calif., from 1-2:30 p.m., appetizers and refreshments will be provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local hospital, medical facility or other organization of your choice.
