Cruz E. Roybal Jr. 73, was called to our Lord on June 15, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family.He was born on Aug. 28, 1943, to Cruz Roybal, Sr. and Juanita Roybal and was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas. He was married to Tere for 50 wonderful years and together they raised four children.He was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Juanita Roybal; and sister Mary Alice Roybal.He is survived by his wife, Theresa Roybal, of the family home; children Viola Roybal-Brown and husband, Bryan, of Westminister, Colo., Mike Roybal and wife, Stephanie, of Las Vegas, Glenn Roybal and wife, Clara, of Albuquerque, Rick Roybal and wife, Mona, of Rio Rancho; grandchildren Mikey Roybal, Maya Roybal, Cruz Michael Roybal, Arielle Roybal, Bella Roybal, Gabby Roybal and Samuel Roybal; brother, Emilio Roybal, of Las Vegas; sisters Gloria Sena of Las Vegas, Ofelia Martinez of Sapello, Cecilia Roybal, Mary Eva Maes and husband, Waldren, and JoAnn Roybal, all of Las Vegas; brothers-in-law, Albert Peña and wife, Margie, of El Monte, Colo., Jim Peña and wife, Patsy, of Kingfield, Texas; sister-in-law, Emma Ulibarri, of San Diego, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.Cruz accomplished many great things in his life. Most notably, he was a self-employed mechanic and served as a councilman for the city of Las Vegas for 16 consecutive years. During his serve as a councilman, Cruz was an advocate for the disabled and elderly and worked to ensure their needs were met, which included sidewalks, parking and housing accesibilities.Cruz was also instrumental in establishing a dialysis center in Las Vegas. Cruz was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, stranger or not.Cruz was a passionate loving father and husband and was so proud of all his family. He taught his family many valuable lessons and skills and he could do anything. Mayor Henry Sanchez once told Cruz that although he did not have a college degree he did have a PhD in life. Cruz loved his grandkids so much!! Dad/Grandpa will truly be missed.Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturday also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following Serving as casket bearers: Mikey Roybal, Fernando Roybal, Gabriel Montoya, John Roybal, Tony Roybal and Johnny Tapia. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Emilio Roybal, Fermin Moncivaiz, Lorenzo "Pige" Aragon, Joe Santiallnes, Wilfred Garduño, Mark Harold Garcia, Carlos Ortiz, Antonio Ortega, Tony Madrid, Ted Mares and Andrew Quintana.
