After her mother's passing, it was important to her to continue to keep the family safe and cared for, always putting others before herself. Crystal was the lady of the house and took loving care of her daughter, Sharlee; her dad, Ernie; and her partner, Tom Olson.Crystal graduated from Dillingham High School and went on to college and received her Associates of Arts in Business. Her career led to work at Fox 4 as the Program Director, where she received an award for not missing a day of work. When she moved to Dillingham she went to work for the State of Alaska, Department of Family & Children Service. Crystal loved fishing and grew up in the family commercial fishing business and subsistence lifestyle. She enjoyed outdoor activities.
