CHICOPEE – Curtis L. “Curt” Gendreau, 86, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2020. Born in Springfield on June 21, 1934, Curtis was the only child of the late Leo J. and Pearl I. (Supernaw) Gendreau. He was raised in Ludlow where he attended Ludlow High School and graduated from the former Monson Academy in Wilbraham. He furthered his education attending Bridgewater State College. He later lived in Westfield and West Springfield and returned to Ludlow before moving to Chicopee. Curt served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed for many years as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center in Springfield. He was a member of the Galaxy Community Council at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, playing cards, going to the beach and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise M. (Richard) Gendreau who passed away on May 12, 2017. In addition to his three children, Michelle A. (Gendreau) Begley and her husband Robert Begley, Jr., of West Springfield, Michael C. Gendreau and his wife Kimberly Fletcher, of Mansfield, MA and Jeffrey J. Gendreau, of Martha's Vineyard, he leaves his two devoted stepdaughters, Cherylee D. (Schimmel) Hagge and her husband, Brian, of Southport, NC and Jennifer E. (Schimmel) Stanley and her husband, Jeffrey, of Enfield, CT; his seven cherished grandchildren, Ryan Royer, Amanda (Royer) Evans and her husband, Tyler, Craig J. Hartnett, Gabrielle C. Gendreau, Alexander J. Gendreau, Loki C. Gendreau and Jackson Stanley; his dear mother-in-law, Dolores (Bouley) Richard of Ware; and his many dear cousins and numerous friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806). The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, MA 01151.
