DALE JOHN GILL, 78 FREEPORT - Dale John Gill, 78, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport. He was born on November 27, 1935 in Stephenson County, IL, the son of John and Dora (Wunschel) Gill. Dale married Margaret Brubaker on November 25, 1995. He served in the Army as a Private First Class. Dale was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles #679, and the AMVETS. For the past 22 years Dale lived his life to the fullest. He worked at Newell for forty years. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling. Dale and Margaret went on a couple of cruises, and trips out West; and spent ten winters in Orange beach, AL with many of his Freeport friends. He played in several bands as the drummer: Denny and the Westerners, Clark's Band, and DDT with Tom Bordner and Dennis Bawinkel. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, very rarely did he miss watching a game. Dale is survived by his wife, Margaret Gill of Freeport; his son, Jason Gill of Dixon, IL; his daughter, Connie Jeffery of Byron, IL; four step-sons, Daniel (Judy) Brubaker of Venice, FL, Ronald (Janet) Brubaker of Rockford, IL, Robert (Debra) Brubaker of Dakota, IL, and Michael (Kelly) Brubaker of Freeport, IL; one step-daughter, Katherine (Mike) Wagner of Freeport, IL; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and two sisters. Memorial service will be held at noon Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Freeport Eagles Club 1200 West Galena Avenue. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Immediately following the memorial service, Dale's family invites friends to join them in a time of fellowship and Celebrate his life. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of cremains will take place at Frankenberger Cemetery in rural Dakota. A memorial has been established in his memory.
