Dale WadsworthMarch 22, 1928 - April 14, 2014Dale Wadsworth, 86, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his wife's arms on Monday, April 14, 2014. Dale was born on March 22, 1928, in Wapello, the 9th child of Francis Abiah and Lydia Christina Wadsworth. As a child, Dale enjoyed riding horses, fishing, hunting, and observing nature. Dale earned his Eagle and Ranger Rank in the Boy Scouts of America and one of his fondest memories was participating in the Boy Scout Centennial in Salt Lake City.After graduating from Blackfoot High School, Dale enlisted in the Navy during the Korean conflict and was stationed at Los Alamitos Naval Air Station, in Long Beach, California. While there, he renewed a high school friendship with Leda May Davis. They soon fell in love and were married on December 7, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Following their marriage they returned to California, where Dale was often at sea for several months at a time. During this time he was able to spend time on the Japanese mainland. After his tour of duty, Dale and Leda returned to Blackfoot and he began working for INEL. During the time he worked at INEL, he also attended Idaho State University part-time for several years to complete a degree in quality control. Dale retired in 1987after working at INEL for 32 years. At the time of retirement Dale was the Manager of Quality Control. Dale was an active member of the Blackfoot 2nd, 6th and 9th wards serving as Elder's Quorum President for 16 years and High Priest Group Leader. His service in the Church also included years of missionary and temple service. Caring for his aging parents and his mother-in-law was a highlight in his life. Dale was a member of the Lions Club. Helping families obtain eye glasses and performing other community service brought much joy into his life. There was never a repair job that Dale couldn't do and he willingly helped others with much needed repairs.Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Lydia Wadsworth and all of his brothers and sisters except for his oldest brother, Ferris, age 96, who currently resides in Sacramento, California. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leda May, children Susan Lee Gubler (Randy) of Moses Lake, Washington, Steven Dale Wadsworth (Stasie) of Pocatello, Idaho, and Sheri Lynn Mabey (Garn) of Las Vegas, Nevada, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Grove City Cemetery following the funeral with military rights. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Blackfoot 6th Ward Chapel, 660 Teton Road, Blackfoot, Idaho at 1pm. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Hawker Funeral Home on Shilling Avenue and for one hour prior to the service at the church.Interment will follow in the Grove City Cemetery.Condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected]
