Stetson, Dallas CleatureDallas Cleature Stetson, 87, who battled both Parkinson's and bladder cancer the last few months of his life, died peacefully with his wife, son and daughter by his side on August 9, 2017 at the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice.Dallas, the son of Forrest and Albina (Goetz) Stetson, was born on January 10, 1930 in Bismarck, ND. Dal was raised in Hazen, ND and graduated from Hazen High School in 1947. Dal was a member of the North Dakota National Guard at Grand Forks, and was activated, along with his twin brother, Donavon, into the army during the Korean War. He served in a medical company and was honorably discharged in 1952. On January 30, 1954, during his senior year in college, Dal married Virginia (Ginny) Rosemary Beaver in Bemidji, MN. After his graduation from the University of North Dakota in 1954, Dal and Ginny moved to the Minneapolis area where Dal joined State Farm Insurance Company.In 1960, Dal and family moved to Sheboygan when he joined Heritage Mutual Insurance Company, when it was just a farmhouse in Franklin, WI. Heritage would later become Acuity; and, Dal served as an underwriter and a manager with the company until he retired in 1992. The Stetsons split their time between Sheboygan, WI and Cocoa Beach, FL.Dal was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Albina Stetson; his daughters, Mary Jo and Karen Stetson and his brother-in-law, Gregory Beaver. Dal is survived by his wife, Ginny; his son, James Stetson (Diane Krause-Stetson); his daughter, Stephanie Stetson (Steve Rosenblum) and their children, Aaron, Marika, and Simon Rosenblum and his daughter-in-law, Madelon Lief, and hers and Karen's daughters, Elena and Nina. He also leaves behind his twin brother, Donavon (Virginia Prieb). Dal is also survived by his "French daughter", Valerie Elzinga (Jeff), and their children, Eliot (Sarah and daughter, Chloe), Celine Farquhar (Ben), and Paul. Valerie lived with the Stetsons in 1980 and has remained a member of their family ever since. Dal is also survived by longtime friends, Norma and Dave Boll of Plymouth, WI and Roger and Patricia Planton of Newton, WI who have been like family. Dal and Ginny were enthusiastic campers and seasoned travelers. They began with a tent, then a camper, and later, a motorhome. Together, they visited all 50 states. They also went on many cruises, including one earlier this year to celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary.Dal was active and had many interests. Dal played bridge, was an avid golfer, and loved to ride his bicycle until Parkinson's robbed him of his balance. He enjoyed kayaking and even built his own kayak. He really enjoyed cross-country skiing, and skied the Birkebeiner several times. Dal loved going to community events, band concerts and especially performances of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra of Cocoa, FL. Dal was a loving husband, a devoted father and wonderful grandfather who adored his grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and his wide circle of friends. The funeral will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home located at 1535 S. 12th Street in Sheboygan. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the commencement of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.The family would like to thank all the caregivers from the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice and Tender Hearts Senior Care who assisted Dal in his final days.Contributions in Dal's memory can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation; the Sharon S.
