Epic Obituary: Danette Wheeler

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Danette Wheeler, a Washington, D.C. resident who lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Born on August 3, 1961, Danette was a force to be reckoned with from a young age. She blazed trails and broke barriers, setting an example for so many others to follow. Her achievements were varied and many: as a student, she excelled in academia; as an athlete, she broke records and won numerous accolades; as a businesswoman, she built an empire from the ground up; as a mother, she raised three beautiful children who she loved with all her heart.
But Danette was more than just a collection of accomplishments. She was a kind and compassionate person who touched the lives of everyone she met. Her infectious smile, quick wit, and unwavering positivity made her a beloved friend, mentor, and confidante to countless people across the country.
Her passing is a devastating loss for many, but we take solace in the fact that her legacy will live on. Her life left an indelible mark not only on her family and friends, but on countless others who were inspired by her drive, determination, and unwavering spirit.
Ms. Wheeler is survived by her mother, Catherine Wheeler Williams; siblings, Donnell and Lonnell Williams; Monta Ruff, Willie Brown, Stanley Brown and Tasha Harp; aunts and uncles, Berdie Henderson, Miranda Wheeler, Mae Sheppard, Wilma Tribble (Clyde), Annie Chaplin (Dan), Willie Fred Williams (Barbara), Curtis Wheeler (Jacquelyn), Chris Wheeler (Brenda), Rev. Michael Harp (Jackie); nieces, nephews, special cousin, Lisa "2 Scoops" Williams, cousin/best-friend, Sharon Chaplin-Mathis; friends, Brenda Alexander and Terri Wright, and a host of cousins and friends.
Rest in peace, Danette Wheeler. Your light will continue to shine brightly in all of our hearts.
