DANIEL J. BOWER, 38 LENA - Daniel J. Bower, 38, of Lena, IL, passed away on November 12, 2013 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Dan was born on December 27, 1974, in Atlantic, IA to Ken and Judy (Chandler) Bower. He and his family moved several times before settling near Lena in January 1990. Dan is a 1993 graduate of Le-Win High School. He attended Highland Community College before his marriage to Abigail Lobdell on September 24, 1994. Dan worked for Boettner Heating and Air Conditioning for seven years in residential sales and service before becoming a full-time
fire fighter and paramedic for the City of Freeport. He was Commander of District 7 AFFI Honor Guard, a former president of the North West Illinois Ambulance Association, and he served as a paramedic for Star and Leamon's Ambulance Services. He was a member of the hazmat team, the Tactical Rescue Team, and he was a Confined Space instructor for the Illinois Fire Service Institute. Dan was also a member of the Lena Masonic Lodge as a 3rd Degree Master Mason. Dan and his family attended the Evangelical Free Church of Lena, IL. Dan enjoyed attending his children's sporting events and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, going on family vacations, and taking photos. Dan and Abigail started Bower Creek Candle Co. in 2011. Dan is survived by his wife, Abigail; their three children, Austin, Emma, and Ellie, all of Lena, IL; his parents, Ken and Judy Bower of Laredo, MO; Abigail's parents, Roger and Mary Lobdell of Lena, IL; two brothers, Phil (Amanda) Bower of Trenton, MO, Mike (Stephanie) Bower of Laredo, MO; one adopted brother, Kyle Bower of Laredo, MO; paternal grandmother, Helen Bower of Massena, IA; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; 12 nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dan was preceded in death by a son, Jacob; his maternal grandparents; and his paternal grandfather. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 17, at the Lena-Winslow Elementary School, 401 Fremont St., Lena, IL 61048. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, November 16, at the Lena-Winslow Elementary School in Lena, IL. At 6 p.m. there will be a Public Safety walkthrough. At 7 p.m. there will be a Masonic Service. Burial will be at the Lena Burial Park, in Lena, IL. A luncheon will follow the services at the Lena Fire Department, 405 W. Railroad St., Lena, IL 61048.
