Souder Daniel Edward Souder, M.S.E., M.D., 76, passed away on December 9, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on June 30, 1940 in Fremont, Ohio to John D. and Alice (Emch) Souder. Daniel graduated from Gibsonburg High School in Gibsonburg, Ohio in 1958. After high school, he attended the University of Florida in Gainesville where he received a degree in Doctor of Medicine as well as a Bachelor/Masters in Engineering with honors. Soon after graduation he began his career of a fellowship at the NIH in 1970. His career continued for 18 years as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Medicine at the Laboratory of Computer Science with Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also an Assistant Professor in Medicine and Instructor of Medicine. His experience included to be a participant with the formulation, design, creation, implementation, and operation of information system for use in health care delivery system which involved the development of MUMPS. This utility was also used at
Ohio State University and other hospitals. In 1989, Dan worked his way back to Ohio at Adria Labs/Pharmacia/UpJohn Pharmaceuticals in Dublin, Ohio as Senior Director of Medical Information where he retired in 2001 after 12 years where he was responsible for data collection, form design, processing and reporting new drug applications to the FDA. Dan also received many awards and his accomplishments were numerous. He enjoyed many hobbies including boating (Cooter I and Cooter II) and coin/stamp collecting. Daniel married Suzanne (Hannum-Bryan) in 1993 in Gibsonburg, Ohio. They were happily married for 23 years. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents John D. (1980) and Alice (1992), his brother-in-law Charles Pritchett (1996) and his son-in-law Neal Heeren (2011). Daniel is survived by his spouse, Suzanne of Dublin, Ohio; his children, Margaret (Scott) Stephens of League City, Texas, Suzanne Heeren of Bolton, Massachusetts, Jason (Jennifer) Bryan of Johnstown, Ohio; his grandchildren, Hannah (Josh) Orin, Andrew Stephens, Abigail Stephens, Emily Heeren, John Daniel "Jack" Heeren, Kirsten Heeren, Michael Heeren, Kiley Heeren, Aiden Heeren, Wyatt Cornwell, Sarah Bryan and Gracelyn Bryan; his siblings David (Nancy) Souder of Gibsonburg, Ohio, and Suzanne Pritchett of Augusta, Georgia; his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends he made along the way. A memorial service will be held at a later time and will be announced to family and friends.
