Mahony, age 78, of Bethlehem, PA passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Moravian Village Health Center in Bethlehem, PA.He was born on September 28, 1938 in Baldwin, NY. He had resided in Clinton, NJ for 44 years before moving to Bethlehem, PA in January of this year.He was the son of the late Joseph Vincent and Mary Bettman Mahony.Daniel was the husband of Kathleen Ibbotson Mahony, celebrating 54 years of marriage.Dan was a retired History Teacher. He taught for over 37 years at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, where he had also served as a football and wrestling coach for ten years.Dan was a sports enthusiast and a true leader. In high school, he was continually nominated by his peers to be captain of their teams, including football, basketball, and baseball.Dan's leadership in athletics continued past his coaching career as he went on to officiate wrestling for 28 years. In 1998, he was the recipient of the Richard Mirshak Award for excellence in officiating.Dan had a true passion for teaching and a genuine interest in his students. He was recognized by his fellow teachers when he was voted as Teacher of the Year at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.Dan was an active community member while he resided in Clinton. He was recently featured in an article in the Hunterdon Review highlighting his volunteer service to the Parks & Playgrounds Commission, where he served as co-chairman for over 25 years.Dan was very family oriented. He enjoyed organizing family reunions and always tried to be present at any major family event.Dan is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen and two sons, Daniel F. Mahony Jr. and his wife Laura of Rock Hill, SC and Kevin J. Mahony and his wife Kimberly of Wilson, PA, one daughter, Marjorie Mahony of Bridgewater, NJ, three grandchildren, Gavin Mahony, Cassidy Mahony and Elena Mahony, two step-grandchildren, Mason Chaya and Zac Chaya, three siblings, Peter Mahony and his wife Bette Lou of Fincastle, VA, Charles Mahony of Clinton Corners, NY, and Kathleen Pierce and her husband Richard of Massapequa Park, NY, three sisters-in-law, Jeanette Denton of Whitehall, PA, Rose Mahony Skarbek of Milltown, NJ, and Marion Mahony of Delran, NJ, and 48 nieces and nephews.Dan is predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Mahony, Leo Mahony, and Hugh Mahony and one sister, Mary Rita Myers.Calling hours will be Friday, May 5, 2017 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 12:30pm.
