Daniel J. C. Copps Jr., 82, of Kingwood, passed away on November 17, 2013. Preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Ann Barth, Dan is survived by his wife of 59 Years, Ruth Ann, son, Dan Copps III and daughter-in-law, Jean Copps (all of Kingwood), sister Barbara Oliver of Overland Park KS, son-in-law Alan Barth and grandson, Matthew Barth (The Woodlands). Dan was born on April 24, 1931, in Richmond, CA to Carroll and Mary Louise Copps.
After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he was a pilot for Trans World Airlines and flew sea planes on the bayous of Louisiana, before becoming a project manager for Catalytic and Tellepsen Construction Companies. Dan moved his family to the Forest Cove/Kingwood Area in 1966, where he was a founding board member on the Board of Governors of Kingwood Country Club. He was an active leader in many community associations and municipal utility districts during the major growth of Kingwood.
Dan opened Kingwood Hardware in 1975 before becoming a partner with his wife, Ruth Ann, at the Window Shop, an interior decorating business located in Kingwood. He was a lay reader for the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and was instrumental in moving the church from South Humble to Kingwood. Dan and Ruth Ann retired in 2006 and moved to Sun City in Georgetown, to enjoy their favorite area, the Texas Hill Country. In recent years, his passions included following the golf progress and studies at Clemson University of his grandson Matthew and doing specialized woodworking for his friends and family.
A memorial service celebrating Dan's life will be held at the Kingwood Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the and the .
