Daniel Louis Markey, Jr. passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016. A native of New Orleans, LA, he was born on Sunday, December 24, 1939 to Yvonne Marie Gremillion and Daniel Louis Markey, Sr. He played football for St. Aloysius High School and graduated from there in 1960. He has been a resident of the Northshore (Mandeville and Covington, LA) since 1970. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served on the USS Forrestal for 3 years. Danny retired after 39 loyal years at IBM. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs, LA and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12529. The beloved husband of Dorothy (Dee) Lancaster Markey, he is survived by three children - Daniel L. Markey III (Karen), Deidre Lynn Markey and David Lawrence Markey (Barbara); one sister - Catherine Markey Mendoza (James); his brother - James Michael Markey (Cindy); six grandchildren - Breanne Markey Orman (Blake), Kelsey Rhea Markey, Shelby Danielle Markey, Mikayla Markey Fornea (Russ), Michael Nolan Ball, and Colleen Marie Ball; one great grandson - Sage Daniel Pocorobba and one Orman baby on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters - Joan Markey Lund (Roy) and Sandra Markey Wood (James). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial mass at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple St. Abita Springs, LA 70420. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM until the Mass at noon. A reception will be held in St. Jane Hall at the Church immediately following the burial All are invited to attend. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA will immediately follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Jane Church, Children's Hospital, Northshore Pregnancy Crisis Center, or a Non-profit .
