Daniel Magney, 63, of Novato, California, passed on May 19th from cardiac arrest. Dan was born to Joan and Leonard (1928-2006) Magney in Van Nuys, CA. When he was two the family relocated to Marin County, where he and his two brothers, Jon and Tom, spent their early years. Starting on West Baltimore Avenue in Larkspur he attended LCM. Then Sun Valley in San Rafael and Davidson Middle School. By 1972 Dan’s family moved to Mill Valley where he graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1976. His life was in Mill Valley. He married Chanel and later had two daughters Thora (1993) and Lauren (1996). He actively volunteered for the girl’s school outings and community work. Daniel was a 3rd generation carpenter. His work reflected his attention to balance and detail. Building homes was his passion along with caring for his family and friends. He spent many summers in Lake County where his grandparents taught him how to garden and cook for a family. Daniel was a renaissance man. He loved camping, fishing, hiking to half dome with his younger brother Tom, running the dipsea, attending Mountain Plays, La Ginestra on Friday nights, trips to Puerto Angél, road trips across country with his older brother Jon, mountain biking up Tam with friends and of course baking his famous pies. We will miss him more than words can articulate especially when we need a shelf put up. Dan leaves behind his wife Chanel, two daughters Thora and Lauren, his brothers Jon (Debbie) and Tom (Gail) and his mother Joan.
