Darlene J. Roach, age 73, of Bancroft died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Hurley Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Darlene was born on July 21, 1935, in Tawas City, the daughter of Gale Mudge and Henrietta O'Dell. Darlene graduated from East Tawas High School. She worked at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital as a nursing assistant, then worked at Koegels in Flint as a meat cutter before retiring from Buick Motors. Darlene was an avid collector; she enjoyed yard sales, antique stores, gardening and photography. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and her two dogs, Sammy and Sophie. Darlene is survived by two daughters and one son, Sandee Smith (Don Chapman) of Grand Junction, Colo., Pennylu Foster (Chuck Fay) of Bancroft and Joe Barnes (Rosemary Middleton) of Coleman; and two grandchildren, Shawn King and Crystal King of Grand Junction. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; and by a son, Jim Barnes. A memorial service was held at the Grand Oak Herb Farm, 2877 Miller Rd., Bancroft, on Friday, July 10, with the family receiving guests with tea and a light luncheon. Arrangements were by Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Flint.
