Darrell L. "Bo" HowellAge: 58 • Springfield, OHDarrell L. "Bo" Howell passed away at his home on February 11, 2017, in Springfield, OH at the age of 58 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 11, 1958 in Staunton, VA to Melvin and Juanita "Ruby" (Shifflett) Howell. He was a 1976 graduate of Fort Defiance High School where he was an outstanding athlete. Bo served in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller until his career retirement in 2001. Following retirement, he continued to work in the profession he loved for the Department of Defense. During his military and DOD careers, he served in Panama, Bosnia, Korea and numerous military bases throughout the United States. Bo was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed the Thursday night league at Rocky Lakes Golf Course in Springfield. He was a dedicated fan of the University of Virginia sports programs and was rarely seen without a UVA logo on his hat or shirt.He was loved and will be missed by surviving and loving partner, Amy Bierfeldt; daughter, Victoria "Torri" Howell; mother, Juanita "Ruby" (Shifflett) Howell; sisters, Sandra (Robert) Puffenberger and Deborah (Denis) Umidi; nieces, Stephanie Furr, Christie Flesher (Katrina Weiland), Randi (Derek) Almond; great nieces, Rachael, Sydney, Piper and Ellie; a great nephew, Trevor; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his role-model and father, Melvin. Bo loved life and never knew a stranger. You could always count him to offer anyone he met a piece of candy from his pocket. He lived his life performing random acts of kindness and encouraged others to pay it forward.At Bo's request, a celebration of his life will begin with the family receiving friends and relatives at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro on Friday, March 3rd from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Further celebration of his life will be held in a private ceremony by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads , 8069 Washington Village Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45458.
