DARRYL SWALVE, 61 SHANNON - Darryl "Mookie" Swalve, 61, of Shannon, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Darryl was born on January 16, 1952, the son of Wayne and Gladys (Sass) Swalve. Darryl was a 1970 graduate of Shannon High School. On February 14, 1971, Darryl married Linda Johnson. Mookie was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed following the New Orleans Saints and the Milwaukee Brewers. Mookie enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. His grandchildren and his golden retrievers, Tank and Molly were special to him. Darryl was a member of the Eagles Club #679 in Freeport. Mookie worked on and maintained the family farm. Darryl owned the Shannon Bowling Alley and Lounge. He also worked for the City of Freeport, retiring on June 14, 2013. Surviving are his wife, Linda Swalve of Shannon; son, Chad Swalve of Shannon; daughter, Tina (Curt) Grove of Chillicothe, IL; two brothers, Dale (Charlene) Swalve of Shannon and Bruce Swalve of Shannon. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Destiny, Cole, Casy, Cade, and Carsyn. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jennifer; sister, Karen; and daughter-in-law, Joni. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, August 11, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burke Tubbs. There will be an Eagles service at 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
