Darwin SpearDarwin B. Spear age 78, died February 19, 2017 at his home in Brandon, South Dakota. Darwin was born on May 19, 1938 in Redfield, South Dakota to Burl and Margaret (Woltzen) Spear. At six months old they moved to the Parker - Monroe area where he attended District #51 country school. They then moved to Monroe where he graduated from Monroe High School in 1956. He married Lois Addy and they farmed in the Canistota area. In 1966 they moved to Seattle, Washington where he drove Metro Transit City Bus for 14 years. In 1980 Darwin married Sheila Mallory and moved back to South Dakota and worked for Pepsi Cola. Sheila passed away in 1983. In 1985 he married Diane Erickson together they owned and operated the Curiosity Shoppe for 14 years.Grateful for having shared his life are: his wife Diane of 31 years, two daughters, Valerie Wallace (Kevin Riley) of Sioux Falls and Kimberly Bunger (Allen Watson) of Canistota; four step daughters, Donna (Stan) Schoenmen of Brandon, Sandra (Rod) Olinger of Hartford, Mary Erickson of Pipestone, MN, Tina Erickson of Sioux Falls; two step sons, James (Leanne) Erickson of Brandon and Robert (Jeanine) Erickson of Jasper, MN; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seventeen step grandchildren; and twenty step great grandchildren. Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Leann, a son-in-law, Terry Wallace, and one step grandson Josh Wiseman.Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February, 22, 2017 at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
