Christel, David P.David P Christel, age 70, of 2118 So. 11th St., Manitowoc, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday evening, September 1, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.He was born on April 8, 1942 in Manitowoc, son of the late Ralph and Evelyn (Rott) Christel. Dave was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1960. On June 30, 1984 he married Kay Matczynski at St. John's United Church of Christ in Manitowoc. Dave was employed with Parker Hannifin in Manitowoc retiring after 43 years and was the owner of Balls & Strikes card shop in Manitowoc. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #706 and the Sea Gulls as well as the Manitowoc County Kennel Club. Dave enjoyed spending time with his friends at Frank & Larry's, Westfield and Toby's Diner. He liked fishing, watching the Brewers and coin collecting. Survivors include his wife: Kay Christel, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Tessa and David Krentz, Germantown; two aunts: Sr. Kay Elmer and Anita Greenwood, both of Manitowoc; one uncle: John (Maxine) Elmer Manitowoc; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Barbara (Perry) Knockel, Albuquerque, NM, Hope Schubert, Watertown, Neil (Debra) Matczynski, Manitowoc, Brian Matson, Monona; and his beloved dogs: Trixie and Cassidy. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Evelyn Christel and one brother: Ronald Christel.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at St Francis of Assisi on Marshall in Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William Van Dynhoven. Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and David will be laid to rest at a later date.The family will greet relatives and friends at St Francis of Assisi on Marshall in Manitowoc from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
