The next year in 1963 his first son Dan was born, and in 1965 his second son Doug was born. Gene was a meat cutter by trade and worked for his father at Consumer's Market. In the late sixties he started working for Davis Pack in Boise where he moved his family. Gene desired to own his own meat packing plant and bought Valley Meats in Stites Idaho in 1977. The family moved to Kamiah Idaho where his sons attended and graduated from Kamiah High. In the mid-eighties he closed the doors on Valley Meats and started working for Barney's Supermarket in Orofino. Since Gene and Patti were both working in Orofino, they moved there in the late eighties. Gene loved the outdoors and Orofino had easy access to some of the best hunting and fishing in the state. Gene really enjoyed Orofino where he was well respected. He served as an Orofino City council member. Gene loved to travel and he and his wife took two trips to Costa Rica. In 1999, Gene and Patti traveled to Thailand to attend the wedding of Doug and Poom, and met their new grandchildren Mathee and Palm. Doug and Poom moved to Boise after the wedding and Gene and Patti moved to Nampa to be closer to their grandchildren, his father, and old friends. In Nampa, Gene and Patti were active in the Church of God of Prophecy, especially with help as kitchen staff at the church's youth camps. Gene was a loving and caring husband and father that loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
