David Edwin NelsonPEORIA - David Edwin Nelson, 65, of Show Low, Arizona, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, unexpectedly from a heart attack in Peoria, IL.He was born on February 17, 1952, in Galesburg, IL, to George Edwin and Shirley (Childers) Nelson.Dave is survived by one son, Jason (Tammy) Nelson of Lake St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Melissa Nelson of Ballwin, MO; one sister, Judith (Daniel) Slankard of Dunlap, IL; one brother, Dean Nelson of Acton, CA; 4 grandchildren, Jakob, Brendan, Asher and Sophia; and 8 nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, J. Mike Nelson. David was proud to teach, and briefly be on the coaching staff of the varsity Show Low High School golf team. Golf was his greatest passion, but he also excelled in many sports. He was captain of his varsity high school basketball team at Peoria Central High School in his younger days. He attended McMurray College and earned his degree at SIUE. He was a devoted son, brother and father who could always be counted on to be there whenever needed.A celebration of life will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Lindenhof, 7601 N. Harker Drive, Peoria, IL. Please wear golf attire if so inclined. A memorial is planned for July 22, 2017, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Ballwin, MO, at Country Lane Woods II Club House, 851 Country Stone Drive, Manchester, MO 63021. Cremation rites have been accorded by Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or the Show Low High School Golf Team.
