David F. Hanley Obituary

Mar 12, 1927 - Mar 02, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Hanley, David F. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 2, 2017 at the age of 89. He was born on March 12, 1927 in Milwaukee and was the beloved husband of Beverly Hanley (nee Eisch). Bev and Dave had been classmates in grade school at St. Augustine parish school in Bay View. They were married May 8, 1954. She predeceased him in 2010 and there is no doubt she was the love of his life. Dave served in the Army and worked in General Douglas MacArthur's Headquarters in Japan during the end of World War II. Dave was a professional engineer and spent the majority of his career as executive vice president of JC Zimmerman Engineering. Dave was a proud graduate of Marquette University, and was very involved at Marquette over the past 60 plus years. He was proud to have been named the Marquette University Engineering School Alumnus of the year in 1990 and was involved there in many ways, including as the Chairman of the Marquette University Alumni Association. Dave was also a life-long member of the Rotary Club and was recently awarded recognition as an active member for over 65 years. He enjoyed the camaraderie with the Waukesha County rotarians and their mission to serve others. Dave and Bev raised five sons, who provided them great joy through their years together. Their sons include Tim (Monica), David (Karen), Mark (Mary), and Steven (Kristina) the late Brian (Julie). They were blessed with 15 grandchildren. Dave came from a large family of six children and was raised in Bay View. He is survived by his brother Bob and was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Ruth and his brothers John, Jim and Dan and his sister Kate. Dave was full of life and a great role model for his sons and all of those around him. It was fair to say he had charisma, and was an inspiration to everyone around him. He was enriched by his many friendships and loving relationships that have lasted him a lifetime. He will be remembered always for his big heart and strong voice. Bev and Dave enjoyed spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they had a very active social life. Bev and Dave spent many nights watching their sons and grandchildren compete in sports and other activities. Dave was incredibly proud of all of them and was always one of their biggest supporters. They enjoyed going to Marquette basketball games and socializing with others from the University. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brian D. Hanley Fund, which supports Catholic Memorial High School, Marquette University and the several other meaningful causes. Gifts can be sent to the Fund at 637 E. Erie St, Milwaukee, WI, 53202. Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave Waukesha, WI 53186 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 PM on Monday evening March 6, 2017. A second visitation will be at church on Tuesday March 7, 2017 from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial that will begin at 10:00 AM. Private entombment services will follow for the family at St. Joseph Mausoleum. Guests are invited to attend the reception at The Legends at Merrill Hills.
