Vogel, Rev. David L. DELMAR The Reverend David L. Vogel, 91, after an extended illness, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Home in Delmar on March 25, 2017. He was born on November 10, 1925, in New Britain, Conn. to Emil and Grace Vogel. His parents gave him the middle name Luther as it also was Martin Luther King's Birthday. He graduated from New Britain High School in 1943 and served his country during World War II in the Army from January 1944 to May 1946. His time in the Army was spent in the Medical Corps in England and Fort Lewis in Washington. In June 1951, he received his bachelor's degree in social studies from Wagner College. There he met the love of his life, Margaret Rauffer of Bridgeport, Conn. They married in June, 1954 and enjoyed 62 and a half years together. That year he also received his bachelor of divinity from Mount Airy Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and was ordained by the United Lutheran Synod of New York and New England in Johnson City, N.Y. For seven and a half years, he served St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Redwood, N.Y., Evangelical Lutheran Church at Four Corners, N.Y. and Christ Lutheran Church at Black Lake. For 38 years he served Churches in Columbia County, namely St. John's Lutheran Church, Ancram, East Taghkanic, Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hudson and Emanuel Lutheran Church of Harlemville. Besides his wife, Margaret; he is survived by his daughters, Debra Ronca (Nick), Pamela Nichols (Kevin), and Christine Kleinhenz (Marc); eight grandchildren, Jennifer, David, and Jason (Marisela) Ronca, Alexander and Grace Nichols and William, Elena, and Richard Kleinhenz; and great-granddaughter, Bella Ronca. David was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Richard. As a lifelong devoted Lutheran and as a pastor, he enjoyed studying the Bible, Church History, Hymn writers, and all things pertaining to his ministry. Other interests included all sports. He was especially a fan of the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and the New England Patriots. He was a long-time member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, and Society of Baseball Research. He also enjoyed books on the Civil War, World War II, Agatha Christie, and other mystery stories. The family wishes to thank his many doctors, the staff of the Good Samaritan Home, the Community Hospice, the Village Eddy, and his caregivers at home for their help during his time of illness. Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, in the Emanuel/St. John's Lutheran Church, 20 South 6th St., Hudson. Burial will follow in the Cedar Park Cemetery.
