December 11, 1921 - August 14, 2016 David M. Palmquist, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016 at the age of 94. He was born on December 11, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lillian M. Stayner and Charles E. Palmquist. David was the grandson of Mormon pioneers Elias D. Palmquist and his wife, Anna Briget Johnston of Sweden and Thomas J. Stayner and his wife Rebecca A. Clark from England. David was five years old when his family moved to Los Angeles,CA. David Palmquist enlisted in the Navy in June 1942. In 1943 he was assigned to the minesweeper Tumult. Mr. Palmquist attended the University of California at Berkeley in officer candidate school and graduated with a degree in electronics. While attending Cal, he met and married Charlotte Nielsen Beaman (1926-2013). They had four children Catherine A. Knowland, of Piedmont, CA, David M. Palmquist, Jr. of Gold Beach, OR, Jennifer L. Palmquist of Portland, OR and James D. Palmquist of San Diego, CA. After WWII ended, he attended USC, where he earned a master's degree in mathematics. Mr. Palmquist taught math and during his career was the head of the Mathematics Department at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, CA. Mr. Palmquist is survived by his wife, his four children, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. His military interment was September 7, 2016 at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
