David E. Phillips, Sr. March 8, 1930 - February 7, 2017 KF7SOY David E. Phillips, Sr. passed away on February 7th in Yuma, AZ. He was born on March 8, 1930 in Tacoma, WA. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Joan L. Phillips, and daughter Belinda Phillips. He is survived by his wife Lois, his children David, Jr. and his wife Christine, and Serine Newman and her husband Daniel. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave went to Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA. He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954, became an electrician by trade, and was a member of the IBEW in Tacoma. Dave loved to work with his hands, and built his own home in Gig Harbor, WA, where he lived for almost 50 years. Dave had a love for the sea; he worked with the Tacoma Sea Scouts for over 50 years. Dave was the skipper of the Paradise and later became Commodore. He was also very interested in amateur radio, and became a member of the Amateur Radio Club of Tacoma and Yuma Amateur Radio Club. He was also a proud member of the Old Farts Radio Club in Yuma, AZ. His call sign KF7SOY is now a silent key.
