MONTPELIER, Idaho - David Porter Jensen, 97, passed away at the Sunshine Terrace on Feb. 16, 2010, in Logan, Utah, surrounded by family. David was born on Oct. 13, 1922, in Glendale, Idaho, the eldest son of Ollen and Ellen Jensen. David attended grades 1-8 in Glendale, and graduated from the Oneida Stake Academy in Preston. He went to San Diego in 1941 to work at the aircraft factory, but returned to work on the Glendale farm due to his father's illness. After his father died, David joined the Army where he served in Ft. Eustis, Va., as an amphibian truck driver and supervisor from March 1946 to August 1947, for which he received an honorable discharge and a World War II victory medal. He returned from military service to court and marry Mignon Smith, eldest daughter of Roy and Lella Smith of Riverdale, Idaho. Mignon and David had one son together and began their Culligan soft water dealership while living in Riverdale. They moved to Montpelier, Idaho, in 1959, where together they operated the franchise until 2008. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on March 18, 2009. David was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a home teacher for many years and fulfilling numerous callings in the Montpelier 4th Ward. David was preceded in death by his wife, Mignon Smith Jensen, and by his brother, Cecil Jensen. He is survived by his son, David Eric Jensen; stepdaughter, Laura Lee Strebel; brother, Glen P. Jensen; sisters BarDee Jensen, Evelen Braddy, Lucille Hall, Collene Hyer, Helen Lombardi, and Sharon Buttars; and siblings-in-law Marlene Chatterton, Karen Serrano, Dalan Smith, Kel Smith, Joel Smith, Star Coulbrooke, and LeeAnn Gilbert. Memorial services for David will be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Montpelier 4th Ward chapel, 485 S. 7th St. Friends may call at Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay St., Montpelier, from6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, and at the 4th Ward church from 10:30-11:30 Tuesday.
