David Raymond Richert Obituary

Jun 05, 1943 - Jan 24, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Dennis Raymond Richert of Juneau, Alaska and more recently Sun City West, Arizona, passed away suddenly on June 24, 2014 in Arizona. He was born on June 5, 1943 in Palatine, Illinois, the youngest of seven children, and was raised on the family farm in North Branch, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in California, Alaska, and New York City, serving ten years as a Radioman. While stationed in Juneau, he met and married Maxine Paddock. Following an honorable discharge, he and his family returned to Juneau where Dennis began working as a pilebuck for his father-in-law's marine construction company, T. O. Paddock, Inc. Working alongside his brothers-in-law and Maxine's uncles, he helped build many of the docks, bridges and ferry terminals in SE Alaska. After attending UASE for a year, he joined Tlingit & Haida Housing Authority, eventually becoming the construction manager and earning a building inspector certificate. During his tenure at T&H, they built many homes in SE Alaska and Juneau.Dennis enjoyed many sports and outdoor activities, especially those he could participate in with family, including skiing, fishing and hunting. In the summers of the 80's he was a fixture at the old "rock dump" motocross track, where he acted as grader, coach, and mechanic, helping Callen and Nicole race dirt bikes. He was honored as "Dad of the Year" in 1983 by the SE Alaska Dirt Bike Riders Club. Later he was active in the Juneau Golf Club, serving as board member and tournament director. He enjoyed bowling in leagues in Juneau and Sun City West , chasing the elusive 300 game. In Sun City West (their retirement home), he played cards nearly every morning at the Men's club, where he served as treasurer, and played golf just as often. He enjoyed travel with friends and family, cooking and hosting, and especially helping to raise his oldest grandson Wyatt (both avid football fans). He was a great husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maxine, son Callen (Nikki), daughter Nicole, grandsons Wyatt and Braxton, sisters Arlene and Jan, brothers Gordon and Bill, brother-in law (Tom, Jr. (Sara)), and sister-in-law, Anna Erbeck, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Esther Richert, father and mother-in-law Tom Sr. and Connie Paddock, brother Butch, and sister Gerry.Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dennis' Life on Saturday, July 26, Juneau Moose Club (8335 Airport Blvd), beginning at 2:00 p.m. Food and refreshments to be served.
