Patton, David Wayne Passed away March 7 after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born on June 15, 1942 in Utica, New York, the oldest of a family of four boys. He grew up In Oneonta, New York and moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1958 with his family. He graduated from Mesa High School in 1960 and Arizona State University in 1964 where he was a member and president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He completed a master's degree in healthcare administration from the
University of Minnesota and a three year tour of duty in the U. S. Air Force Medical Service Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. He began his career in Phoenix where he served as an assistant administrator of Maricopa County Medical Center, and was chair of the planning committee to relocate the medical center to its present Roosevelt Street address. He went on to spend 30 years as CEO of hospitals located in South Dakota, Colorado, California and Hawaii. In mid-career he earned an MBA and Ph. D. in management from the Claremont Graduate University, and finished his career as a professor in the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU. He was a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was also a skilled golfer and held the rank of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. Dr. Patton was preceded in death by his father, Dale, and is survived by his mother Eleanor, three brothers, Roger, Don and Tom, his two children Jodi Slotar (husband Bruce) and Steven (wife Jerri), and five grandchildren including Courtney Slotar, Ryan Slotar, Brady Slotar, Lisette Patton and Annelise Patton, step children Kimberly Howard and Brian Olson, and step grandchildren Samantha Howard, Alexa Carver, Chelsea Olson and Courtney Olson, and step great grandson, Joshua. He leaves behind his wife Barbara, the love of his life for all 22 years of their marriage. The foundation of his life was his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. He volunteered his time doing ministry associated with Calvary Chapel - Surprise where he also served as an elder and member of the board of directors.
