Dawn Beverly Innis Calabrese Obituary

Dec 18, 1959 - Mar 12, 2024

This obituary is administered by:

On March 12, 2024, the world lost a bright shining light with the passing of Dawn Beverly Innis Calabrese at the tender age of 64. Born on December 18, 1959, in Belize,Dawn was the beloved second of five children born to Gilbert Raymond and Myrna Adeline Innis.

Dawn was a devoted spouse to Sam Calabrese (died 2013), whom she married in 1987. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Nicholas Innis Calabrese

and Mia Gabrielle Calabrese. Dawn was a wonderful mother, always putting her family and children first. She included David (Schatz) as one of her beloved children as well. Their close relationship has always remained undeniable…their bond unbreakable.

The Innis family emigrated from Belize to Chicago in 1970.  After graduating from Aquinas Catholic High School in 1977, Dawn attended Mundelein College in Chicago. She worked in the finance sector for many years before pivoting to a career in sales which offered more flexibility with her kids schedules. She moved on to work for Frank Cooney & Company, where she specialized in educational furniture sales and consulting for Chicago public and private schools. She was successful and highly respected in her field where her engaging personality and ready smile made a lasting impact on employers, co-workers and clients .

Dawn had many eclectic interests and hobbies. She was a true foodie and an amazing cook who enjoyed nothing more than having people over and watching them enjoy her delicious meals.

Dawn loved music and dancing. Her varied playlist represents her appreciation for all musical genres and artists from classical to calypso ,rock and roll ,blues, jazz, to ratchet hip hop. She even lit up when she encountered a good mariachi band. When visiting Kerry’s home, she never failed to replace his playlist with hers and start dancing around as soon as she arrived! She was always the life of the party!

She was very passionate and knowledgeable about politics and was always eager to share her opinion on such matters...whether you asked for them or not!

One of her favorite things to do was visiting Nick and Mia in New York . Because her spirit was young at heart, all of their friends would want to be in her presence . She was the cool, fun and nurturing Mom and friend.

Dawn and her partner John of 8 years enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends and family, traveling, concerts ,and embarking on all kinds of activities and adventures together.

Family meant everything to Dawn. She cherished her close relationship with her brothers Kermit and Kerry. She always claimed that being part of the triad sisterhood that was Denise, Dawn and Laura was her “superpower”.

Dawn was an amazing mother, sister, partner, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Simply put…she was FABULOUS!
