Dawn Elaine Lucien Age 91, of Tacoma, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2017. The youngest of six daughters, Dawn was born on October 31st, 1925, in St. Ignatius, Montana, to Hazel and Howard Sharp. She graduated from Prosser (Washington) High School and attended Mills College in Oakland, California. Dawn married the late Paul Olson of Seattle in 1946, and they settled in Tacoma that year. She married the late Fernand Lucien of Tacoma in 1971. She was a beloved and admired Tacoman, whose legacy includes leadership of the successful efforts to resolve a land dispute between the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and private developers, establish the
University of Washington Tacoma, modernize our theaters into a thriving Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, and save the Murray Morgan Bridge, among many other accomplishments. Dawn's deep knowledge of Tacoma and her ability to bring people together for a cause had enormous impact on initiatives in government, arts, education, and the environment. Her two unfinished works are the renaming of Mount Rainier to Mount Tacoma and the establishment of Tacoma as "the conflict resolution center of the world." She was predeceased by both of her husbands, and by her eldest son, Paul Olson, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Eric Olson of Tampa, Florida, and Kurt Olson of Tacoma; two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Olson of Tampa and Rickie Lee Olson of Tacoma; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Alyssa Olson. Dawn's family welcomes her friends and colleagues to attend a celebration of her life at the Pantages Theater on Sunday, July 30th, from 2-5 pm.
