Dayna Knight, beloved daughter, sister, mother, partner, and grandmother, was truly someone who inspired love in all who knew her. She brought light into the lives of everyone around her. Today, we gather to honor her life and the enduring love and memories she gifted us.
Born and raised in Arizona, Dayna was the eldest of five siblings—Danita, Derrick, Charelle, and David—children of Darrell Knight and Cheryl Gentry. Despite losing their mother at a young age, Dayna’s strength and nurturing spirit helped her navigate difficult times and support her siblings. A proud graduate of South Mountain High School, she formed lasting friendships that remain cherished today.
Dayna dedicated herself to full-time motherhood, welcoming five wonderful children: Alanja, Shanique, Deshawn, Kailani, and Xavion. She shared 17 loving years with her partner, Devannon, the father of Xavion. Her unwavering commitment to providing the best life for her children never wavered, no matter the challenges she faced. She cherished every moment spent with her family, whether big celebrations or quiet gatherings, always eager to express her love.
Professionally, Dayna was a cherished teacher at Beattitudes Agelink and later worked in Transportation for DVUSD, where her warm personality brought joy to her colleagues. In 2020, she became a grandmother to Kairo, and in 2023 to Kane, both of Kailani's children. Dayna adored her grandsons and cherished every moment spent with them, which brought her immense joy.
In late 2020, Dayna faced serious health challenges that led to her early retirement. During this time, her family supported her, allowing her to rest while still enjoying time with her grandsons. Even in the face of adversity, she remained positive, always dreaming of future moments with her family. She consistently reminded those she loved how much they meant to her, reaching out to friends and family despite any distance.
Dayna’s wish was to have all her children together again, a desire we fulfilled for her. She passed peacefully on October 28, 2024, surrounded by her five children, her sister Charelle, and Kishia Lewis (Shanique’s mom), after an unexpected emergency at home.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Cheryl. Dayna's influence and spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and we will cherish the many memories she has left us.
