Dean Edward Bechtel
Dean Edward Bechtel, age 77, of Taylor Street, Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at his home. He was born on November 6, 1937 in Ankenytown, Ohio the son of Elmer and Mabel (Robinson) Bechtel. Dean was a 1955 graduate of Fredericktown High School where he served as co-captain of the 1954-1955 undefeated football team. Dean retired in 2000 after 42 years of employment as an accountant for Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield.
He was a member of the Fredericktown First Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for 42 years. Dean was very active and supportive with his children and grandchildren in their sporting activities. He served as treasurer and manager for the Fredericktown Little League and was a member of the Fredericktown Booster Club. Dean was an avid softball player and golfer, always looking forward to laughing and playing with friends in the Fredericktown golf league. Dean was a faithful fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and his beloved Fredericktown Freddies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (McFarland) Bechtel, whom he married on September 21, 1957, three sons, Jim (Amy) Bechtel of Upper Arlington, Tom (Becky) Bechtel of Bay Village, Scott (Jenny) Bechtel of Blacklick, seven grandchildren, Ben, Max, Hallie, Olivia, Lexie, Abby and Katie, a brother, Earl Bechtel of Worthington and a sister, Wilma Evans of Chicago, Illinois.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Bechtel and a sister, Doris Bechtel.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, 123 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, Ohio where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Timothy Mohon will be officiating. Burial will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery in Ankenytown.
Memorial contributions in Dean's name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown, Acclaim Hospice or the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.
