Deborah "Debbie" Joyce ElmoreABILENE, TXOur loved one passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be conducted by Kyle Brown and Tim Truitt on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Elmwood Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place immediately following in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the funeral home.Deborah (Debbie) Joyce Elmore was born on December 12, 1953 to proud parents, Ott and Peggy Elmore, Abilene, TX. She was a lifelong resident of Abilene and attended Crockett Elementary, Jefferson Junior School, then graduated as Salutatorian from Cooper High School in 1972. She attended University of Texas in Austin for 2 years and later Abilene Commercial College.Debbie was baptized and joined Westgate Church of Christ, Abilene, in her early teens. She had a successful career in a profession that she loved, serving her customers, with whom she had a great rapport. She spent 40 years as a cashier at Safeway, Eckerd/CVS, and Walgreens.She was enormously dedicated in her love of animals, especially dogs. Over the years, Debbie had many beloved dogs, including her surviving "baby girl" Cheyenne. She had a great love for her family, cherishing time spent together. Debbie was a devoted and loving companion and caretaker of her elderly Mother for many years until the time of her death.Predeceased by: her Dad, Ott Elmore; maternal grandparents, Carl and Ruby Baskett; paternal grandparents, David and Vonnia Elmore; and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.Survived by: Mother, Peggy Elmore, Abilene; sister, Kathy Elmore, Abilene; brother and sister, Ed and Donnella Elmore, College Station, TX; nephew and niece, Carl and Emily Elmore and first great niece/nephew due in January, Wilmington, NC; nephew and niece, Mark and Heidi Elmore, Spokane, WA; aunt, Olien Elmore, O'Brien, TX; cousins: Nina and Marion Truitt, Gatesville, TX; Sharon and John Foster, McKinney, TX; Judy Elmore, Abilene; David and Brenda Elmore, Coahoma, TX; Joe and Gloria Elmore, Texarkana, TX; Randy and Rhonda Elmore, Amarillo, TX; Ken and Shiela Williams, San Antonio, TX, Terry Dunn, Ft. Worth, TX; Vicki and Larry Lookingbill, Aledo, TX; Toni and Andy Gabbert, Ft. Worth; Pat and Rick Knight, Larue, TX, Vonnia Elmore, Knox City, TX; and many other beloved cousins; best and lifetime friend Bobbye Tharp Silva, Tomball, TX; friends: Jennifer Jordan and Karla Davis, Abilene; and her beloved dog Cheyennne.Thanks and appreciation for the dedicated care given Debbie over the years: Dr. Barry Moak, Dr. Richard Stanley, Dr. Gary Walker, Dr. Hari Kalla, Hendrick Hospice and Cancer Services Network; and caregivers: Karla Davis, Dianne Martin, Judy Elmore.Memorials may be given to Cancer Services Network, Hendrick Hospice and Rescue the Animals.God looked round his garden and found an empty space. He then looked down upon this Earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful. He only takes the best. He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well upon this Earth again. He saw the roads getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids. And whispered in your ear, "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
