Debra Green Hoefer, 60, of St. Augustine, Florida, was called to heaven on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. Debra was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend to so many. She was born on Dec. 15, 1955, to her devoted parents, Fred and Shirley Green, of St. Augustine. Since that day, she has taught us how to smile bigger, laugh harder and love stronger. "Debbie," as she was known by many friends, graduated from St. Augustine High School and attended Daytona Beach Community College for fashion design. After moving to New York, she opened a clothing store and later worked for the Port of Oswego. After she moved back to St. Augustine in 1993, she worked for the city of St. Augustine. At the age of 48, she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Debra graduated from Flagler College with a Bachelor in Elementary Education and specialty training in Visual Impairment, ESOL, and Exceptional Student Education. She taught us all what it looks like to find your true calling in life. At the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, she passionately guided her students down the path to success and taught them to reach for their dreams. For the last 11 years, she has enjoyed teaching at R.B. Hunt Elementary, where she was a mentor to all. Debbie loved to travel and spend time with her daughter and family and friends. Just one of the many things she will always be remembered for is that she saw the best parts of each of our hearts. She will forever live on in our hearts and memories. Debra is survived by her loving parents, Henry Fredrick Green, Jr. (Fred), Shirley Thompson Green; daughter, Keri Green Bomarito (formerly Hoefer); brother, Henry F. Green III and sister-in-law, Jaimie Green and children Sarah and Isaac Green, along with many other family and friends. We will be saying goodbye to Debra at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Craig Funeral Home (824-1672) in St. Augustine, and 11 a.m. is the service time. Donations in her memory can be made for homeless children in St. Johns County at homelesscoalitionstjohns.com or ink-stjohns.org. Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park, craigfuneralhome.com, is in charge of the arrangements.
