Delfinio Robert Tafoya, 79, passed away from this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Vida Encantada Nursing Home. He was born on Dec. 24, 1935, in Las Vegas, and was raised in Sapello (Emplazado). Robert is preceded in death by his mother: Estella Tafoya-Abeyta; sisters: Candi Abeyta and Cordy Abeyta; brothers: Cruz Tafoya, Pablo Abeyta, Tony Rosario Abeyta and Jimmy Abeyta; maternal grandfather: Jesus Antonio Tafoya and maternal grandmother: Maria Candelaria Baca-Tafoya; uncles: Joe Tafoya and Cordy Tafoya; and aunts: Antonia Tafoya and Lena Tafoya-Salazar.Robert is survived by his son: Robert Lloyd Tafoya (wife Orlinda "Judy"); daughters: Deborah Varela (husband Edwin) and Cynthia Marquez (husband Steve); mother of his children: Velma Montaño; grandchildren: Valerie Tafoya, Caressa Ortiz, Steve Vigil, Carlos Vigil, Melissa Marquez Stahl, Brian Marquez and Leah Marquez; great-grandchildren: Katelyn Vigil, Heaven Rose Vincent and Brandi Ortiz; brothers: David Abeyta (wife Flora), Henry Abeyta (wife Alice) and Charlie Abeyta; sisters-in-law: Joanne Tafoya and Susie Abeyta; special recognition to John Lucero of Henderson, Nev., his best friend in his youthful years, and numerous other relatives and friends.Robert moved to Henderson, Nev., after graduating from Las Vegas Robertson High School at the age of 18. He worked for Titanium Plant in Las Vegas, Nev. until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958. He proudly served his country in Korea in 1958 as a U.S. Army DMZ-Police guarding the 38th Parallel and was honorably discharged in 1960. Robert was a lifelong Catholic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and celebrating with friends. A special "thank you" to the staff at Vida Encantada Nursing Home for providing quality care to Robert for the last five years.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Rogers Mortuary Chapel in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as casket bearers: Melissa Marquez Stahl, Brian Marquez, Carlos Vigil, Johnny Tafoya, Johnathan Madrid and Edwin Varela.
